Our Agencies

Ontonagon County Commission on Aging/Lake Gogebic Senior Citizens Club Inc. exists to promote, enhance, and provide various services to the aging population. These services allow seniors to remain in their homes longer by providing homemaker and personal care assistance. Support, relief, and reassurance are also provided to caregivers through respite care in their homes or through our adult day centers.

Our History & Founder

Our founder, June Lipinski, has been organizing and directing services to Ontonagon County’s aging population for over 22 years. Her concerns and compassion for the elderly have led her to single-handedly organize a complete network of senior resources and centers throughout the county. Along her journey, Lipinski gained invaluable knowledge and resources for the benefit of the elderly community. She was nominated for U.P. person of the year in 1991. Below is a list of major achievements and outstanding accomplishments:


  • 1968 - The Lake Gogebic Senior Center in Bergland was formed in response to the needs of local seniors.
  • 1969 - Sought and acquired the Bergland Community Building and renovated it for use as Lake Gogebic Senior Center where it remains today, along with the office of the Ontonagon County Commission on Aging/Lake Gogebic Senior Citizens Club Inc.
  • 1971 - Organized the incorporation of the Lake Gogebic Senior Center as a not-for-profit organization in order to acquire funds to expand services to area seniors.
  • 1975 - Conceived a county-wide Senior Day and organized the first activities held on June 21, 1975 and held annually ever since on the third Wednesday in July.
  • 1975 - With assistance from The Area Agency on Aging, formed the Ontonagon County Commission on Aging. 
  • 1975 - Received a certificate of appreciation from the Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging for June’s “contribution to services for the aging in Michigan.” 
  • 1970-1980s - Worked with Community Action Agency to open many nutrition sites throughout Ontonagon County.
  • 1970-1980s - Organized and assisted with the establishment of five new senior citizen centers in Ontonagon, Ewen, Bruce Crossing, White Pine, and Bergland.
  • 1984 - June received a Certificate of Achievement from UPCAP and Area Agency on Aging for “dedicated service, concern, and leadership in development of Senior Citizens Programs.” 
  • 1972-1992 - June was the Director of Lake Gogebic Senior Citizens Club Inc.
