About Our Agency and Founder
June Lipinski, Founder, had organized and directed services to the aging in Ontonagon County over 22 years.  She has instigated and organized a network of services and senior centers throughout Ontonagon County with little or no resources at times other than her compassionate concerns for the elderly.  June was nominated for U.P. person of the year for year of 1991.  Below is a list of major achievements and outstanding accomplishments:
  • 1968 - The Lake Gogebic Senior Center in Bergland was formed in response to the needs of the local seniors.
  • 1969 - Sought and acquired the Bergland Community Building and renovated it for use as Lake Gogebic Senior Center where it remains today.  The office to the Ontonagon County Comission on Aging is located in this building as well.
  • 1971 - Organized the incorporation of the Lake Gogebic Senior Center as a not for profit organization in order to acquire funds to expand services to area seniors.
  • 1975 - Conceived the idea of a County-wide Senior Day and organized the first activities held on June 21, 1975 and held annually ever since, the third Wednesday in July.
  • 1975 - With the assistance from The Area Agency on Aging, formed the Ontonagon County Commission on Aging
  • 1975 - Received a certificate of appreciation from the Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging for June's "contribution to services for the aging in Michigan"
  • 1970-1980's - Worked with Community Action Agency to open numerous nutrition sites throughout Ontonagon County
  • 1970-1980's - Organized and assisted with the establishment of five new Senior Citizen Centers located in Ontonagon, Ewen, Bruce Crossing, White Pine, and Bergland
  • 1984 - June received a Certificate of Achievement from UPCAP and Area Agency on Aging for "dedicated service, concern and leadership in development of Senior Citizen's Programs
  • 1972-1992 - June was the Director of Lake Gogebic Senior Center, Inc
Lake Gogebic Senior Citizens Club, Inc and Ontonagon County Commission on Aging:

These two Agencies promotes, enhances, and provides various services to the aging population.  This enables them to remain in their homes longer by providing homemaker and personal care.  Support, relief, and reassurance is also provided to Caregivers by providing respite care in their homes or through our Adult Day Centers.  For more information, please click on links located on left hand side of screen.
